Boosie Badazz Faces Backlash Over Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Boosie Badazz is facing serious backlash after his attempt to honor Caleb Wilson, a student who tragically lost his life due to hazing, with a scholarship in his name. The rapper, during his 6th annual Boosie Bash Festival at Southern University, announced the creation of the Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship. The event featured performances from artists like GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and DaBaby, and Boosie claimed that Wilson’s father had played a pivotal role in preventing the cancellation of the event.
However, the Wilson family quickly expressed their disapproval. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed that Caleb Wilson’s parents had no knowledge of the scholarship or the use of their son’s name and image for promotional purposes. They have not granted permission for the scholarship and are demanding its removal from all marketing materials. Murrill also warned that legal action might follow, stressing that the event was not a charitable endeavor but rather a for-profit concert.
The controversy surrounding the scholarship announcement has escalated, especially with the ongoing investigation into Wilson’s tragic death, where three individuals face manslaughter and criminal hazing charges. Boosie responded angrily to the accusations, asserting that the event had been promoted on Eventbrite since November, long before Wilson’s passing. He denied any intention to capitalize on the tragedy, stating, “A death of a student won’t help a concert, it would hurt a concert.”
Boosie further criticized the allegations, calling them a “slap in my face” and labeling the legal action as an “ultimate betrayal.” He maintained that his actions were meant to support the family, not exploit the situation, and expressed frustration at being mischaracterized. Despite his defense, the situation has sparked a heated debate over the ethics of using a tragedy to promote an event, with many questioning Boosie’s motives.
As the legal battle looms, the controversy continues to draw national attention, especially as Caleb Wilson’s death remains under investigation.
