FBI Identifies Gunman in Trump Rally Shooting As Thomas Matthew Crooks
The FBI has identified the gunman responsible for firing shots at a campaign rally attended by former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper during the incident. The shooting left one audience member dead and two critically injured.
The FBI, which described the investigation as active and ongoing, has not yet determined a motive for the assassination attempt. Authorities used DNA analysis to confirm Crooks’ identity since he was not carrying identification. Trump, who narrowly escaped injury with a bullet grazing his right ear, was briefly hospitalized and later evacuated under Secret Service protection.
Eyewitnesses recounted seeing Crooks armed with an AR-style rifle on the roof of a shed near the rally stage before he opened fire from approximately 200 to 300 feet away. Law enforcement responded swiftly after rally attendees and witnesses alerted them to the gunman’s presence.
