As Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys approach their 15th wedding anniversary, the producer is opening up about the key to their enduring relationship. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Swizz, 46, shared that the foundation of their lasting union is rooted in friendship, communication, and a commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.

“Marriage is definitely a big word, but look at it like your best friend,” Swizz said while discussing his partnership with Hard Rock International for his mezcal brand, The Producer. He revealed that the couple has never had a heated argument, emphasizing that their relationship has been free of yelling, cursing, or raised voices. “We’ve never had an argument. Since we’ve been together, our kids have never seen us raise our voice, never seen us yell. Never seen us curse at each other. Why? Because of communication.”

Swizz and Alicia, 44, tied the knot in July 2010, having first met as teenagers. Together, they share two sons: Egypt, 14, and Genesis, 10. Although the couple disagrees on certain matters, Swizz explained that they’ve found a healthy way to express their differing opinions. “When you yell at each other, no one is really listening anyway. Nothing gets solved in each other’s yelling,” he noted.

Swizz also offered insight into the mutual respect that defines their marriage, stressing that neither of them “owns” the other. “People think they can own people. You can’t. It’s not property that you own. There’s a whole human, right?” he said. “She’s her own boss. I’m my own boss. That’s how we make magic when we come together.”

In addition to their two children together, Swizz and Alicia are also parents to his older children from previous relationships: Prince Nasir, 24, Kasseem Jr., 18, and daughter Nicole, 16.
