Quinta Brunson is stepping into her blockbuster era after landing a major new project centered around one of animation’s most iconic characters — Betty Boop.

The Emmy-winning creator of Abbott Elementary is officially developing and starring in a brand-new Betty Boop feature film, marking the legendary cartoon character’s return to the big screen in a starring role for the first time since the 1930s.

According to reports, Brunson’s production company Fifth Chance Productions partnered with Fleischer Studios and Mark Fleischer — the grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer — to bring the project to life.

But this won’t just be a regular cartoon reboot.

The upcoming film will reportedly explore the relationship between Max Fleischer and Betty Boop herself, diving into the pressures of fame, creativity, and what happens when an artist’s creation becomes bigger than they ever imagined.

Quinta explained that after learning more about Betty’s history, she realized there was a deeper story waiting to be told.

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters,” Brunson shared. “She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century.”

The project is already drawing comparisons to Barbie due to its modern reimagining of a classic female icon through a contemporary lens.

Fans online are especially excited because Quinta has built a reputation for blending humor, emotion, and cultural commentary in a way that resonates with audiences across generations.

Created back in 1930, Betty Boop became one of the first female animated superstars in entertainment history and remains a global pop culture icon nearly 100 years later.
