Kim Kardashian’s Robbers Found Guilty Of $10 Million Jewelry Heist

Kim Kardashian returned to Paris earlier this month to testify in the long-awaited trial of the men accused of orchestrating a violent 2016 robbery that left her tied up and traumatized during Paris Fashion Week. On Friday, May 23, the verdicts were delivered: eight out of the ten elderly defendants—nicknamed the “Grandpa Robbers”—were found guilty.

The mastermind, Aomar “Old Omar” Ait Kedache, now 69, received an eight-year sentence with five years suspended. Three others received seven-year terms, also with five years suspended. Due to time already served in pretrial detention, none of the convicted will actually return to jail.

The 2016 heist, which saw $10 million in jewelry stolen from Kardashian, shook the entertainment world. Authorities arrested the group three months after the robbery. Now, nearly eight and a half years later, Kardashian finally got to look some of her assailants in the eye—and hear their apologies.

“I forgive you,” Kim reportedly told “Old Omar” from the stand, but clarified, “It doesn’t change the emotion and the feelings and the trauma… the way my life is forever changed.”

Only one piece of jewelry has ever been recovered from the high-profile crime. Among the suspects, one was previously employed as a driver and assistant for the Kardashian family. Another passed away shortly before the trial began.

Beyond the courtroom, Kardashian is also dealing with ongoing co-parenting challenges involving Kanye West, although she’s reaching new milestones personally—having recently graduated from her four-year Law Office Study Program, and now preparing to sit for the bar exam.
