Jay Rock Arrested on Gun Charge in Watts, California
On Thursday, March 13, rapper Jay Rock, born Johnny McKenzie, was arrested in Watts, California, after a run-in with local police. According to NBC 4 Los Angeles, Rock was initially pulled over for trespassing at the Nickerson Gardens public housing complex. When officers tried to detain him, Rock reportedly attempted to flee on foot, asking for clarification on why he was being held.
After apprehending Rock, officers discovered a firearm in his abandoned vehicle. He was subsequently booked on a felony gun charge. As of Friday, March 14, Rock remains in police custody, though his next court date has not yet been announced.
A video showing Rock being taken into custody has circulated online, where he is seen being escorted to a police car while bystanders voice their objections.
