Damon Dash Ordered To Sell Film Studio & Streaming Network

Damon Dash’s financial troubles have taken a sharper turn as a federal judge has ordered the sale of assets tied to The Dash Group—his business entity registered under wife Raquel Horn’s name—to satisfy a debt from a 2019 copyright lawsuit. The news was first reported by AllHipHop on Tuesday, May 13.

Author and filmmaker Edwyna Brooks successfully sued Dash in 2019, alleging he released an unauthorized film adaptation of her Mafietta book series. She was awarded a $78,289 judgment in 2020. Dash not only failed to pay the award but also lost a countersuit and allegedly attempted to hide assets through shell companies including The Dash Group and Poppington LLC. With accrued interest and legal fees, the amount owed has risen to nearly $100,000.

After multiple failed attempts to collect the debt, Brooks petitioned the court to intervene. The judge responded by appointing a receiver to oversee the forced sale of The Dash Group—officially owned by Horn on paper. The company encompasses several of Dash’s ventures: the America Nu streaming platform, CEOByDash, and his children’s book Dusko Goes to Space.

Dash has been ordered to provide full access to the company’s financial records. Proceeds from the liquidation will go directly toward repaying Brooks.

This ruling follows a string of financial hits for the former Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder. In November 2024, Dash’s one-third stake in the label was auctioned off for $1 million—funds that were immediately diverted to unpaid child support and overdue New York state taxes. Creditors in other cases received nothing.

Dash also faces mounting debts including an $823,000 judgment related to the film Dear Frank, a $4 million defamation ruling, and $8 million in back taxes. Reports suggest he is preparing to file for bankruptcy. Should he fail to comply with court orders, he could face contempt charges or arrest.

While the court has capped Brooks’ recovery at the original judgment plus interest, Damon Dash’s financial reckoning shows no signs of slowing.
