Chris Brown Remains in Custody After UK Arrest for Alleged Nightclub Assault

Chris Brown will remain in police custody in the United Kingdom following his arrest and charge of grievous bodily harm, a judge ruled Friday. The ruling was handed down by Judge Joanne Hirst, who scheduled the singer’s next court appearance for June 13 at London’s Southwark Crown Court, according to Reuters.

The “Forever” singer is facing a serious charge stemming from an alleged altercation at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on February 19, 2023. Brown is accused of smashing a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle over the head of music producer Abe Diaw and continuing the assault while the producer lay unconscious.

Brown was arrested shortly after landing in Manchester on a private jet and taken into custody at his hotel, according to TMZ. He was expected to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court at 10 AM Friday, per the Metropolitan Police.

Adele Kelly, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, confirmed the charge and emphasized Brown’s right to a fair trial. She also issued a caution to the public and media, stating that “the case proceedings are active” and urging restraint in sharing online commentary that could prejudice the trial.

Diaw filed a civil suit against Brown in 2023, alleging he was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck with “crushing blows” and stomped on while unconscious. Following Brown’s arrest, Diaw’s attorney, Ryan J. Daneshrad, told TMZ, “We are pursuing all legal remedies to hold him accountable.”

As of now, Brown’s representatives have not commented publicly on the arrest or the charge.

Despite the legal situation, Brown still has two scheduled concerts in Manchester next month as part of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour. There has been no official word yet on whether those shows will be canceled or postponed.
