Sources claim Cardi B caused major tension during rehearsals for the show’s 1,000th episode after overhearing a joke about Nicki Minaj during a run-through of “Weekend Update.”

According to insiders, the anchors were rehearsing a punchline referencing Nicki’s alleged recent MAGA affiliation ahead of dress rehearsal. Though the joke reportedly had nothing to do with Cardi directly, sources say the “Bodak Yellow” rapper took issue due to her longstanding beef with Nicki — especially after past social media drama that involved comments about Cardi’s children.

Things allegedly escalated quickly.

Sources claim Cardi threatened to leave the show and threw her phone at a backstage monitor. She’s also accused of entering a producers’ office and punching a screen until it broke.

We’re told the damaged monitor had to be replaced before dress rehearsal could continue, and the atmosphere backstage was left tense and shaken. The Nicki joke was ultimately scrapped from the segment, according to reports.
