Boosie BadAzz Beats Prison Time in Federal Gun Case, Judge Hands Down Time Served

Boosie BadAzz just caught a major legal break.

The Louisiana rapper appeared in a California federal courtroom on Friday (Jan. 9) to receive sentencing in his federal gun case — and walked away without any additional prison time. According to legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff, the judge sentenced Boosie to time served along with three years of supervised release, rejecting prosecutors’ push for a longer sentence.

Boosie had previously pleaded guilty last summer to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Ahead of the hearing, federal prosecutors recommended a 24-month prison sentence followed by supervised release, but the judge ultimately showed leniency.

Before stepping into court, Boosie appeared confident and in high spirits. He posted videos on social media showing himself suited up in a bright blue outfit, flexing an expensive Audemars Piguet watch and hyping himself up for the day.

“Let’s Get It!” Boosie captioned the post.

The case dates back to a 2023 incident in San Diego. Boosie was pulled over during a traffic stop after authorities noticed a firearm in his waistband while he was on Instagram Live. A subsequent search of his vehicle allegedly turned up multiple firearms. While local charges were initially dropped, federal authorities later picked up the case.

Though a federal judge dismissed the charges last July, prosecutors refiled the case shortly afterward. In August, Boosie opted to take a plea deal and has been awaiting sentencing ever since.

Now, with no additional prison time looming, Boosie can move forward — though he’ll remain under federal supervision for the next three years. For the rapper, it’s a rare courtroom win after years of legal battles.
