Actor Tray Chaney’s Son Critically Injured After Tornado Destroys Family Home in Georgia

A devastating tornado tore through the Laurel Creek neighborhood in Locust Grove, Georgia, on Thursday afternoon, leaving destruction in its wake and critically injuring 18-year-old Malachi Chaney, son of actor Tray Chaney, known for his role as Malik “Poot” Carr on HBO’s The Wire.

The tornado, which struck just after 3:30 p.m., caused significant damage to at least 13 structures, with two homes completely destroyed. The National Weather Service has preliminarily rated the tornado as an EF-2, indicating wind speeds between 111 and 135 mph .

Chaney recounted the harrowing experience on social media, stating that he was knocked unconscious when the tornado hit their home. Upon regaining consciousness, he found himself buried under debris and immediately began searching for his son. Neighbors assisted in locating Malachi, who had been thrown approximately 300 feet from his bedroom into nearby woods.

Malachi was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he remains in the intensive care unit with multiple broken ribs and facial fractures. Tray Chaney sustained minor injuries and has been released from the hospital. He expressed profound gratitude for the support received and emphasized the importance of cherishing loved ones .
