REGGIE McFADDEN, ‘In Living Color’ Comedian Dies at 57

The comedy world is mourning the loss of Reggie McFadden, the comedian and actor best known for his work on the iconic sketch series “In Living Color.” He was 57.

McFadden’s sister, acclaimed author Bernice L. McFadden, confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, October 4.

According to Bernice, Reggie had been living in Tanzania for the past 18 years, and the U.S. State Department notified the family of his death. No details about where he died or his cause of death were immediately disclosed.

For many fans, McFadden will forever be remembered for his time on “In Living Color.” Created by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the groundbreaking sketch comedy series ran from 1990 to 1994 and helped launch or spotlight major stars including Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Lopez, along with several members of the Wayans family.

McFadden appeared in 23 episodes of the series during its fifth and final season between 1993 and 1994.

His television résumé also included appearances on “Moesha,” “Coach,” “Martin” and the 1998 sitcom “Getting Personal,” where he starred alongside Vivica A. Fox, Jon Cryer and Duane Martin.

In 2001, McFadden appeared on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as a police officer and neighbor of Larry David.

His film credits included the 1990 psychological thriller “Jacob’s Ladder” and the 2000 comedy “Little Nicky.” He also spent time touring as a stand-up comedian and had a comedy special on Comedy Central.

According to his biography on The Comedy Store’s website, McFadden grew up in what he described as the “harsh neighborhoods of Brooklyn,” and comedy became a way for him to create a different future for himself.

His major breakthrough reportedly came in 1991, when producers of HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” invited him to perform. The appearance helped establish McFadden as a comedian to watch.

McFadden leaves behind his sons Jaron and Myles, his mother Vivian, and siblings Bernice, Misty and Kris.

As fans revisit his performances and remember his contributions to comedy and television, Reggie McFadden’s legacy lives on through the laughs he gave audiences throughout his career.
