Universal’s upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic is continuing to build out its cast — and another major piece of West Coast hip-hop history has officially been filled.

Algee Smith has been cast as legendary rapper and producer Warren G in the upcoming film Snoop. Smith joins Jonathan Daviss, who will portray Snoop Dogg, while Myles Bullock is set to play Dr. Dre and Camron Jones will portray Tupac Shakur.

The film will chronicle Snoop’s journey from Long Beach to becoming one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures, including his relationship with Dr. Dre and his rise during one of the most influential eras in West Coast rap.

Warren G is an important part of that history. Before Snoop became a household name, Warren G played a pivotal role in connecting him with Dr. Dre — a relationship that would ultimately help change hip-hop forever.
