Damson Idris just might be suiting up for Wakanda.

The British actor, best known for his breakout role in Snowfall, stopped by the Today show on Tuesday, June 18, to promote his upcoming Formula 1 racing film F1—but it didn’t take long for the conversation to steer toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When asked about swirling rumors that he may be in talks to play the next Black Panther, Idris kept things playfully mysterious. His response? A coy “Yes-no!”—prompting laughter from host Craig Melvin, who pressed further. “That still sounds like a yes,” Melvin said, to which Damson smiled and replied, “It could mean no.” However, when asked point-blank if he’d say yes to the role if offered, Idris didn’t hesitate: “Yes.”

The original Black Panther, played by the late Chadwick Boseman, became a cultural phenomenon and left a lasting legacy. After Boseman’s passing in 2020, the role of Wakanda’s protector was taken up by Letitia Wright’s Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

While Marvel Studios has confirmed that Black Panther 3 is officially in development, no casting announcements have been made. Still, fans are buzzing about the possibility of Idris bringing his charisma, depth, and gravitas to the iconic role.
