The anonymous caller claimed that several armed men were in the home, and described witnessing the abuse of a naked woman and a child in danger. During the pursuit, Scooter sustained a fatal injury, tearing a femoral artery. He later succumbed to his wounds.

In response to the incident, Atlanta police have announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the woman behind the false 911 call. Georgia lawmakers recently passed a law, effective July 1, 2024, classifying “swatting” as a felony, with punishments of up to five years in prison.
