Russell Wilson Heads to Gotham: Giants Sign Veteran QB to One-Year 10.5M Deal

In a move that signals a new chapter for both Russell Wilson and the New York Giants, the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback is signing a one-year, $10.5 million deal to join the team as their starting quarterback. Wilson, 36, can earn up to $21 million with incentives, according to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo.
This marks Wilson’s third team in as many years, following a stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. After battling a calf injury, he posted a 6-5 record as a starter, throwing for 225.6 yards per game with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. Wilson’s journey began with a legendary run in Seattle, where he earned a Super Bowl win and nine Pro Bowl selections from 2012 to 2021.
Now, Wilson will head to MetLife Stadium, where he not only played for the Seahawks in the Super Bowl but will now make it his home. He joins a quarterback room that includes the recently signed Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito, with Wilson expected to lead the group into the 2025 season.
The Giants’ pursuit of a franchise quarterback has been complicated, with their long-term hopes for Aaron Rodgers fading and now dashed. With Wilson on board, the Giants’ search for stability continues, though they still hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, a potential spot for a future QB like Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
While Wilson isn’t the long-term solution, he serves as a bridge quarterback, bringing his experience to a rebuilding franchise. For now, he’ll help guide New York’s offense, giving wide receivers like Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton a chance to thrive under his deep ball accuracy.
As the Giants move forward without Daniel Jones, Wilson enters the picture as the team’s immediate leader, but the quest for the next franchise QB remains very much alive.
